WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PODIATRIST AND A CHIROPODIST?

These are actually the same thing. The word Podiatrist has generally replaced the word Chiropodist now.  All our qualifications are in Podiatry and not Chiropody now. However I find that if I call myself a Podiatrist people don’t really understand what I do whereas if I call myself a Chiropodist / Podiatrist people know straight away

The reason for the change of name is that generally as Podiatrists we do more than is classically understood by the word Chiropodist. Biomechanics, Surgery and Nail surgery with local anaesthetics and being able to prescribe certain drugs to patients to mention but a few.

All our Podiatrists (chiropodists) are HCPC registered.  This means they have done a 3 year degree course in Podiatry. In doing this course and being HCPC registered they are approved to call themselves a Podiatrist or Chiropodist.

Always ensure your Chiropodist is HCPC registered.

What is the HCPC? The Health and Care Professions Council are an organisation which has been set up to monitor and regulate health care standards across many professions. Ensuring practitioners are appropriately qualified and keep up to date with their knowledge and training.

WARNING

Foot Health Practitioners are not Chiropodists / Podiatrists. They are not the same thing and only do a fraction of the training Podiatrists / Chiropodists do.
