Sore painful areas of hard skin packed into a tight area compressed down into a central nucleus. This describes a simple corn caused by pressure. Our body reacts to pressure by causing a build of skin, this is a protective mechanism for friction and stress on the skin. However, if the pressure continues the build up continues and over time this leads to skin trauma and the compression of the harder skin that is building up, to form corns and callus.
These can be very painful and prevent us doing the things we want to do.
