How To Prevent Blisters?

Foot blisters are as common as they are annoying, but it doesn't have to be that way. If you're experiencing blisters on your feet, there's a good chance it's because of something specific in your shoes — like an exposed seam or a tight fit.

When selecting socks, make sure to choose a pair that is made using moisture-wicking material. These socks help keep your feet dry, even during the most strenuous of workouts. You can also apply antiperspirants or talcum powder to your feet as a way to eliminate odour-causing bacteria. You should also toughen the skin on your feet with gradual increases in distance and moisturising your heels if they are dry.

To keep blisters from forming on your feet, you can apply moleskin or sports tape to any area that typically gets sore from all the walking. Your local podiatrist can also provide you with helpful advice and protection, so don't be afraid to reach out with questions!

Foot Blisters

Foot blisters develop as a result of wearing footwear that is too tight or ill-fitting. This happens because the tight shoe rubs against your skin for extended periods of time, causing you to develop blisters.

What Are Foot Blisters?

Blisters form on the upper layer of skin due to friction, a little burst of fluid forms under the skin, resulting in a small bubble. If you have pain over the blister and your skin is red, it is most likely infected. Immediately take steps to stop infection such as cleaning and covering the blister.

How Do Blisters Form?

Blisters can occur anywhere on your feet, usually due to constant friction of skin and material, often between shoes and your feet. Wearing sandals, boots or shoes that don't fit well can cause blisters. Additionally, moisture and humidity in your socks or shoes can easily lead to a blister.

Prevention & Treatment

It's important to take care of the affected area to prevent the blister from getting infected or rupturing. As soon as you can, clean the affected area, dry it thoroughly (don't pop a blister!), and cover it with a Band-Aid. Using a band-aid helps provide a barrier between your skin and the blister, giving it some protection and preventing it from coming into contact with clothing or other things that might irritate it further.
