DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers and how do they work?

Dermal fillers are injectable implants. They are made from a purified form of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA, a natural part of our bodies, occurs in the spaces between cells and helps cushion, support and hold our skin — as well as the skin on other parts of the body — together.

When we inject hyaluronic acid (HA), it attracts water molecules to itself, causing your skin to plump up. Hyaluronic acid can help restore volume and hydration to the skin.

What can dermal fillers be used for on my feet?

Dermal fillers are an extremely popular option for treating calluses, corns, and other painful foot problems. These fillers cushion a painful area on the sole or ball of the foot to prevent unnecessary damage to underlying skin and bring relief.

How can dermal fillers help my corns?

Corns, or calluses — thickened masses of skin often caused by excessive pressure on the feet, resulting in inflammation and the formation of a hard plug of skin over the area — can be painful to walk on. The first sign is usually a small, hard bump on your heel, which you may mistake for a pimple or other foot blemish. If you aren't removing that pressure, then the corn will always return.

Dermal fillers are a safe and reliable way to treat corns. By adding small amounts of dermal filler beneath the skin, the underlying tissue is padded and relieved of pressure — which can decrease or entirely prevent further discomfort.

Common questions about dermal fillers

Do dermal fillers hurt?

Dermal fillers shouldn't hurt. Here at Walsh Podiatry, we use a local anaesthetic before the procedure so that you can feel comfortable throughout the whole process.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers usually last around 6-12 months although this number is highly dependent on your lifestyle and your skin type. To maintain your desired effects, top-ups are almost always advised and sometimes necessary for optimal results.

How much do dermal fillers cost?

The cost is £250 for one lesion or £350 for multiple. The cost includes the local anaesthetic and the dermal filler.

Are there any complications with dermal fillers?

As hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar there are very few side effects which are all quite rare.

  • Extreme pain maybe felt within 48hrs

  • Infection

  • Painful on ground contact

  • Redness / Small lumps or bumps

  • Post operative discomfort

  • Pain and swelling at injection site

  • Reaction to local anesthetic

Some patients may experience an uncomfortable feeling that can last up to 30 days or more but this is very rare.
